Future Society

Technology rarely changes society directly. It changes costs, capabilities and defaults, and societies then reorganise around them — through institutions, laws, norms and habits that move at their own speed.

This section looks at that slower layer: identity and authentication in a world of synthetic media, trust in information, demographic ageing, education, inequality, public administration and the governance capacity needed to supervise systems few people fully understand.

The recurring theme is asymmetry. Capability tends to arrive before the institutional machinery for handling it, and most of the interesting social outcomes are decided in that gap.
